Back Care for Athletes
Designed by physical therapist Dr. Caitlin Casella to serve a specific patient population: Those who work at desks (or in professions that place prolonged postural stress on the body), and play hard on the weekends (sports, hiking, cycling, running, heavy workouts at the gym, all the things).
Classes include relaxing “feel good” spinal movement to decrease guarding and initiate comfortable motion. Breathing exercises to melt away feelings of stiffness and soreness. Active and resisted mobility drills for your hips, trunk, shoulders, and neck. Trunk muscle endurance training for keeping chronic back pain away long-term.
This class is appropriate for all levels of experience, even if you don’t consider yourself an “athlete.” Designed for people with chronic back aches/stiffness, beneficial for everyone. Limited to 10 participants.
Whole-body strength and conditioning.Limited to 8 participants.
Foundational Strength is for you if:
» You’ve recently finished a physical therapy plan of care and need a few more weeks of robust exercise to get back to your prior level of activity. You probably had a period of time when certain activities were put on hold. That break was necessary for the injured part of your body, and it’s important to remember that the rest of your body had a relative break too. Let’s get you (the whole you) back in shape!
» You have a goal of building up your strength and general fitness but are intimidated by traditional gym spaces, or don’t know where to start.
» You’re looking for a cost effective option for personalized training and education on programming (a plan for working out). Grow your confidence, skills, and knowledge so you can continue your training independently.
